Tiffany Scharschmidt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. She received her M.D. from UCSF and completed her scientific training in the labs of Julia Segre, Michael Fischbach and Michael Rosenblum where she acquired expertise in both microbiology and immunology. Her work has demonstrated that adaptive immune tolerance to commensal skin bacteria is preferentially established in neonatal life in conjunction with coordinated recruitment of regulatory T cells into neonatal skin by commensals and hair follicles.

Tiffany Scharschmidt is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco. She received her M.D. from UCSF and completed her scientific training in the labs of Julia Segre, Michael Fischbach and Michael Rosenblum where she acquired expertise in both microbiology and immunology. Her lab investigates host-directed and microbe-directed mechanisms that promote healthy dialogue between skin bacteria and the adaptive immune system, with a focus on early life events. Dr. Scharschmidt is the recipient of an NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, a Burroughs Wellcome Career Award for Medical Scientists, a Doris Duke Clinician-Scientist Development Award and the American Academy of Dermatology’s Young Investigator of the Year Award.
